Australian Energy Regulator: State of the Energy Market Report 2009
Tue 8 Dec 2009
On 8 December, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) published the “State of the Energy Market 2009†report on its website (http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/904614).
The report highlights the fact that there was a step increase since Aug 2008 in the trading volumes in the 2010 contracts with significant activity in the options. The report suggests that the trend towards trading in d-cyphaTrade ASX electricity options might have been caused by market participants needing to hedge their exposure in a market environment plagued by the uncertainty surrounding the planned introduction of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) first in 2010 and now in 2011.
The AER’s report confirms that the d-cyphaTrade ASX electricity options market has grown to become one of the largest exchange traded electricity options market in the world, trading 115TWh or 58% of underlying physical NEM system demand during the financial year 2008-09.
