d-cypha SFE Electricity Futures & Options
Benefits of Exchange-Traded Futures & Options
- Standardised contracts (expiry, quantity, location) in a tightly regulated market.
- The central counterparty clearer (SFE Clearing Corporation) effectively eliminates counterparty credit exposure.
- Anonymity – protects the identity of counterparties.
- Ability of market participants to manage their electricity price risk whilst reducing their credit risk.
- Price transparency (prices freely available to all market participants).
- All participants regardless of size are able to contribute to market pricing.
- Additional flexibility for market participants to unwind existing long dated and ‘illiquid’ OTC positions into exchange-listed futures and option positions.
- The SFE Corporation Limited provides a robust exchange platform and clearinghouse infrastructure.
- All futures & options listed are available for both base-load and peak period exposure and in each of the four NEM States.
- Exchange-traded options allow energy end-users to incorporate electricity financial instruments into their overall risk management strategies.
Wholesale Electricity Price Index™
Working in collaboration, d-cyphaTrade and the Department of Industry Tourism & Resources (ITR) have spent several months developing a Wholesale Electricity Price Index™ (WEPI™) for the Australian electricity market. The WEPI provides a simple, easily reportable index that reflects daily changes to contract and spot market conditions and their effect on the stability of the underlying wholesale price for electricity in the NEM. To receive the WEPI in your inbox visit our newsroom at www.d-cyphatrade.com.au
Training & Education
d-cyphaTrade recognises the value of providing the market with continuous education to improve understanding of derivative energy products.
The d-cypha Electricity Workshops were offered for the first time in 2003 and were attended by 65 people between June and September. The workshops are suitable for energy traders, risk managers, finance and treasury employees, managers from generators and retailers, and corresponding personnel from large industrial and commercial energy users.
The workshops typically run over a half-day session and can be tailored in-house or off-site for group bookings to meet your organisation’s training needs.
Data Centre
d-cyphaTrade’s web-based Data Centre provides players in the energy market with downloadable electricity data files in csv format, including: daily settlement files, historical futures data, historical options data and historical WEPI data. The website also provides you with regular newsletters and up-to-date information on the energy market.
