Message from Argus Vice President - Argus Australia Power Generation Fuels 2013 Conference
Wed 19 Dec 2012
Dear industry colleagues,
It is our pleasure to invite you to Argus Australia Power Generation Fuels 2013, which will be held at the Establishment Hotel in Sydney on 27 February 2013.
With significant volumes of natural gas destined for export as LNG, we are looking at a supply crunch for domestic and industrial users. This highly anticipated follow-up to last year’s inaugural event will consider Australia’s energy outlook, with a particular focus on thermal coal and natural gas as generation fuels, as a convergence of issues are set to transform Australia’s energy and electricity markets.
The conference will highlight the global pricing mechanisms used in gas and coal and how they affect domestic pricing in Australia. Key issues affecting the current depressed coal market and its potential recovery will also be discussed. The event will focus on the supply/demand outlook and trading patterns of these power generation fuels and how their changing dynamics will affect the electricity sector. We will also look at the market impact of the carbon tax implementation and lessons learned from the EU emissions trading scheme (ETS). The potential for an east coast Australian gas hub to emerge is another pertinent topic that will be discussed.

We are glad to have the support of the New South Wales Government, with the Hon Minister Chris Hartcher MP presenting a welcome address at the event. Major industry players and government bodies have already confirmed their participation, including Delta Electricity, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), the Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics (BREE), DOMGAS Alliance, Deutsche Bank, AMCI Investments and the ANU Climate Institute.
